A friendship spiced with a taste

On the eve of the celebration of 140 years of friendship between Serbia and Japan, the relations between the two countries are spiced with the recognizable taste of our cuisine. For the first time, the inhabitants of the land of the rising sun will be able to find a finished Serbian product on store shelves- mućkalica.*

From the rich gastronomic offer, it was difficult to choose one dish. The decision was made by the Japanese tourists, among whom mućkalica is number one in popularity while staying in Serbia. In the current circumstances of the pandemic, when they are not able to travel, the Japanese will be reminded of the Serbian hospitality and inspired to prepare for a future visit to Serbia in the safety of their homes.

The launching of this dish made of paprika and pork is a joint project of the site "My Serbia", which deals with the promotion of Serbia in Japan, and the company "Macubara Foods". The project should strengthen friendly relations between the two countries. And they started back in 1882 with the exchange of letters between king Milan Obrenovic I of Serbia and the Japanese emperor Meiji.

*A traditional Serbian dish, a stew made of barbecued meat and vegetables. The name is derived from the verb mućkati, meaning to shake, stir, mix.
