INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING MARATHON JARAK–ŠABAC
The Jarak-Šabac International Swimming Marathon is known worldwide as the «Peace Race». Swimming Marathon is a 18 km and 880 meter long swim along the Sava River, which is the length of the water section between the Srem village of Jarak and Šabac, near the «Stari grad» beach. The marathon is held in memory of the «Bloody March» of 4,500 people from Šap who, in September 1941, ran 22 kilometers to the German camp in Jarak, under threat of death. In 2018, the marathon became part of the Global Swim Series and the Open Water Swimming Cup, which contribute to the greater semi-parisization of the marathon. In addition to the sports part, the entertainment part of the program, the fish kettle cooking competition, and the State Sand Wrestling Competition are an integral part of the event on the Sava River.
