The slopes of Fruška Gora have been covered in vineyards since the Middle Ages. When in the area, definitely take a tour of the Fruška Gora wineries. We suggest you do so at dusk, when you’re most relaxed and finally ready to sample the local wines “straight from the source”.
Fruška Gora
Fruška Gora mountain is a favourite picnic area for the locals of Novi Sad and their visitors. This national park boasts more than 1500 different plant species, as well as many rare and endangered species of insects, birds, amphibians and reptiles.
Its fairy-tale-like expanse elicits strong emotions in everyone. The mountain is interspersed with hiking and mountain cycling trails and dotted with various sport fields and a myriad of spots to enjoy a picnic with family and friends.
At the very peak lies Stražilovo, a famous picnic ground and site of the tomb and monument of the great Serbian poet Branko Radičević.
Он the Fruška Gora mountain ridge lies the picnic area of Zmajevac, with its enchanting view of Vrdnik spa and its surroundings. Not far away from here, near Iriški venac pass, you will find the imposing monument named “Freedom”, a symbol of the fight against fascism, dedicated to the soldiers fallen in World War II.

Built in the unique Serbian baroque style, the monasteries of Fruška Gora still stand out as some of the most beautiful buildings of mediaeval Serbia.
Monasteries of Fruška Gora
Apart from its splendid nature, Fruška Gora also offers spiritual pleasures to those who visit the many Orthodox Christian monasteries on its northern and southern slopes. As many as 17 monasteries were erected here in the late Middle Ages, when the centre of Serbian spiritual life moved to the North under pressure from Ottoman Turks. Built in the unique Serbian baroque style, the monasteries of Fruška Gora still stand out as some of the most beautiful buildings of mediaeval Serbia.

Sremski Karlovci
Sremski Karlovci, a town near Novi Sad, attracts visitors both with its lavish architecture and its museums, galleries and wineries with centuries of tradition. At Sremski Karlovci, you will find some of the finest examples of 18th– and 19th-Century Austro-Hungarian architecture in Serbia, including the Patriarchate Court, the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, the Serbian Orthodox Theological Seminary and the building of Serbia’s oldest secondary school, the Gymnasium of Karlovci.
The baroque edifice of the Ilion Castle is home to the Sremski Karlovci Homeland Collection, with more than 10 thousand historical, archaeological, ethnological and art exhibits.
When at Sremski Karlovci, be sure to taste Ausbruch and Bermet, the town’s wine brands made according to a technology which has been passed from generation to generation as a jealously guarded secret.
