World Tourism Day (WTD) is celebrated every year on September 27 highlighting the social, cultural, and political values and the importance of tourism globally. WTD 2014 is being held under the theme Tourism and Community Development – focusing on the ability of tourism to empower people and provide them with skills to achieve change in their local communities.

cvet

“Tourism is a people-based economic activity built on social interaction, and as such can only prosper if it engages the local population by contributing to social values such as participation, education and enhanced local governance. At the same time, there can be no real tourism development if such development damages in any way the values and the culture of host communities or if the socio-economic benefits generated by the tourism sector do not trickle down to the community level.” – UNWTO Secretary–general Taleb Rifai stated in his message on the occasion.

In Serbia, NTOS traditionally hosts an annual tourism awards ceremony – The Tourism Flower, the highest national award in the field of tourism. Additionally, winners of the first national competition for the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) will be awarded. This year’s ceremony will be held in the Belgrade Waterfront gallery.

Emergency situation abolished http://www.serbia.travel/state-of-emergency-lifted/ http://www.serbia.travel/state-of-emergency-lifted/#comments Sat, 24 May 2014 15:42:51 +0000 http://www.srbija.travel/?p=21348 facebooktwittergoogle_plusyoutubeinstagramfoursquare
Yesterday, the Serbian government abolished the emergency situation in the territory of the Republic of Serbia which has been in force since 15 May due to floods that hit our country.
Even though parts of country are heavily affected and damaged, country’s major tourism destinations have been left unscathed by the flooding and the tourism season is going on as planned.
Belgrade, except its suburb of Obrenovac, and Novi Sad have not been affected by the flooding, and this also applies to the northern province of Serbia – Vojvodina, as well as to the territories and mountain resorts of southern and eastern Serbia and the city of Nis being the centre of this area. Infrastructure has not been affected to the roads connecting the territories which are principle destinations for foreign tourism, and all tourism attractions are open as usual (more information on the road conditions at http://www.amss.org.rs , section in English) . Majority of the campsites are fully operational and already provide accommodation for the guests.
Belgrade Airport is running a normal timetable with no delays or cancellations to scheduled flights and river cruises on the Danube are being conducted as scheduled.
Hopefully, this natural disaster will not negatively affect the tourism season in Serbia, especially having in mind the important role of the tourism as an economy in the rebuilding efforts throughout the country.

Serbian campsites are fully operational http://www.serbia.travel/serbian-campsites-are-fully-operational/ http://www.serbia.travel/serbian-campsites-are-fully-operational/#comments Fri, 23 May 2014 09:38:37 +0000 http://www.srbija.travel/?p=21321 facebooktwittergoogle_plusyoutubeinstagramfoursquare

According to the state of emergency and floods in Serbia, Camping Association of Serbia made a
full check of all camping accommodation facilities in order to check the operational status for the
upcoming (started) season.
Majority of the campsites are fully ready and already provide accommodation for the guests. Only
few campsites are not fully operational in this moment:

1. Camping area Strand, Bogojevo – Managing board decided to rent the camping ground
to the third part operator. Till third part start the rent, campsite will be fully operated under
the legal owners; Contact person: Atila Rupa

2. Campsite Ovčar banja – Vehicles are unable to approach to the campsite due to the
raised level of the river. Access is able over the suspension bridge and vehicles can be
parked on the parking lot 200m from the campsite;

3. Camping area Žuta stena, Arilje – Campsite is in the process of cleaning the remains
inflicted by the river Rzav and will be fully functional in next 10 days due to the fact that
the group of Belgian campers are expected on 15th of June.

The conclusion is that Serbian campsites are fully operational (except above mentioned)
due to the big floods close to the larger river flows in Serbia.
We do hope that this natural disaster will not negatively affect the camping season in
Serbia, specially considering the fact that many groups from Netherlands, Belgium and
Germany are already driving towards Balkan and Serbia and there were no cancellations
so far.

logo_ispis_engThe Serbian Government has declared an emergency on the territory of Serbia, due to the flooding and landslides, which are predominantly affecting Western and Central areas of Serbia.

Mainly rural areas and small cities, which are principally agricultural and not tourism areas, are heavily affected and damaged, and all rescue and evacuation teams from Serbia and abroad are engaged in eliminating the consequences of the

heavy rains last week.

To date, Belgrade (except its outskirt suburb of Obrenovac), and Novi Sad have been left unscathed by the flooding and as a result, for tourism in these areas, it is very much business as usual. This also applies to the northern province of Serbia – Vojvodina, as well as to the territories and mountain resorts of southern and eastern Serbia and the city of Nis being the centre of this area.

Infrastructure has not been affected to roads connecting the territories which are principle destinations for foreign tourism, and all tourism attractions are open as usual.

Belgrade Airport is running a normal timetable with no delays or cancellations to scheduled flights.

River cruises on the Danube are being conducted as scheduled.

The call for support came also from the UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai: “Many livelihoods in this part of Europe depend on the tourism sector and we are calling on tourists to continue to visit the destinations and establishments still in operation as this can help speed up rebuilding efforts.”

“Yugoslav Art From 1900 to 1945″ exhibition at the Museum of Yugoslav History http://www.serbia.travel/yugoslav-art-from-1900-to-1945-exhibition-at-the-museum-of-yugoslav-history/ http://www.serbia.travel/yugoslav-art-from-1900-to-1945-exhibition-at-the-museum-of-yugoslav-history/#comments Fri, 28 Mar 2014 15:19:57 +0000 http://www.srbija.travel/?p=20813 facebooktwittergoogle_plusyoutubeinstagramfoursquare

Museum of Yugoslav History, 6 Botićeva street

March 29 – May 18, 2014

Concept and set up: dr Dejan Sretenović
Curator: Mišela Blanuša

After nearly seven years of the Museum’s building at Ušće being closed down due to the protracted halt in its reconstruction, the exhibition “100 works from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Yugoslav art from 1900 to 1945” is organised with the purpose of bringing out before the public the most relevant works and authors of the Yugoslav and Serbian art from respective period, that are kept as a part of the Museum’s collections. The idea about putting on this exhibition stemmed from the fact that, aside from occasional thematic and monographic exhibitions, the Museum was not able to present its collection in a more thorough way via its permanent display, and its very purpose, which consists in exhibiting the art of 20th c., was altogether suspended for indefinite period of time. The collection is the basic identity card of each and every museological institution and also its primary concern, and permanent display is an ever available resource of production and dissemination of knowledge on art, which implies that the inconceivable neglect of the state vis-à-vis the MoCA’s destiny has had serious repercussions as to both the Museum’s proper functioning and policy of its development, and its social, cultural and educational role. Therefore, showing the selection of works from its depot should somewhat remedy this impossible situation which resulted in years of absence of any representative display of modern and contemporary art in the Serbia’s capital, decreasing the number of museum-goers, and depriving professional audience, art lovers and young generations, of the direct insight into this significant art heritage of our country.
1 Sava Sumanovic Pijana ladja 1927 Kolekcija MSUBThe decision to show only a part of the Museum’s collection, the one which represents the art of the first half of the past century, is taken by and large due to technical reasons, and also due to conviction that this fraction of the collection, since historically the most removed from the immediate experience of today’s spectator, is the least known to the broadest public, and as such it commands special attention. The exhibition could be, as concerns its typology, defined as a demonstrative exhibition of works “from the collection” which, when set out in the space of another museum as a guest exhibition, underscores the presentation of individual works, and as such has no aspiration to affect in any way the narrative of modern art history. Its goal is to bring to the fore the collection as such, specifically that part of the MoCA’s collection which enables our acquainting with the key or typical tendencies that have marked a particular era in Yugoslav and Serbian art.
The exhibition features works by Đorđe Andrejević-Kun, Antun Augustinčić, Jovan Bijelić, Marko Čelebonović, Avgust Černigoj, Marijan Detoni, Petar Dobrović, Lojze Dolinar, Vilko Gecan, Krsto Hegedušić, Rihard Jakopič, Ignjat Job, Milan Konjović, France and Tone Kralj, Frano Kršinić, Mirko Kujačić, Milo Milunović, Petar Palavičini, Milena Pavlović Barilli, Mihailo Petrov, Nadežda Petrović, Zora Petrović, Vasa Pomorišac, Ivan Radović, Marko Ristić, Toma Rosandić, Veljko Stanojević, Eduard Stepančič, Sreten Stojanović, Zlatko Šulentić, Sava Šumanović, Ivan Tabaković, Vane Živadinović Bor etc.

During the exhibition various accompanying programmes are due to take place, including lectures and theme-centred guiding by curators of the Museum of Contemporary Art, and other experts, as well as educational workshops. Please find enclosed the program.
Ticket price is 300 dinars, and the accompanying programmes are free of charge.

The exhibition will be open every day, except on Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On this day, the 1st of January, in a carnival atmosphere adults drink boiled wine and rakija, congratulating New Year to each other, while children enjoy the numerous entertainment programs.

On 7th of January, citizens celebrate an Orthodox Christmas. On this day, you should visit one of the Orthodox temples, where the tradition of celebrating this religious holiday has not changed for centuries: the Temple of St. Sava (www.hramsvetogsave.com) on the Vračar Plateau, Church of Saint Marko or the Church of the Ascension, known for one of the best church choirs in Serbia.

oplenac-harvestOplenac Grape Harvest, a traditional three day festival of grapes, wine and national folklore, will be held in Topola for the 50th time, starting October 10th. Aside from the famous Oplenac grapes and wines, visitors will be given the opportunity to enjoy a variety of specialties of traditional Serbian cuisine, fruit and vegetable exhibitions, and diverse cultural and art manifestations.

The first records on vine-growing in this region date back to 1432 and the travelogues written by Bertrandon de la Broquière, a Burgundian pilgrim and a clerk in the court of Philip III the Good. Grapes and wine are still a symbol of this region’s villages, therefore it proudly carries the title of the capital of Serbian vines.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the winegrowers` cooperative from Vencac was built and later on, the vineyard and the wine cellar of King Petar and Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, and they spread fame of wine from Oplenac throughout Europe.

The favorable climate, composition and the soil and configuration of the terrain are convenient for the growing of autochthonous grape sorts, such as Prokupac, Vranac and Smederevka.

In the Royal cellar there are archive wines, so they are certainly the oldest national wines preserved in Serbia. From 1931 there are Oplenka, Zilavka and White Burgundy, filled in unique bottles with the royal crest, and coming from later years are Prokupac, Hamburg and Plemenka.

Serbia has been awarded the “Chinese Tourists Welcoming Award” at the COTTM travel fair in Beijing http://www.serbia.travel/serbia-has-been-awarded-the-chinese-tourists-welcoming-award-at-the-cottm-travel-fair-in-beijing/ http://www.serbia.travel/serbia-has-been-awarded-the-chinese-tourists-welcoming-award-at-the-cottm-travel-fair-in-beijing/#comments Thu, 11 Apr 2013 08:07:16 +0000 http://www.srbija.travel/?p=18209 facebooktwittergoogle_plusyoutubeinstagramfoursquare

The National Tourism Organisation of Serbia has been awarded the “Chinese Tourists Welcoming Award” in the category of “Marketing destinations in the Chinese Market” at the COTTM travel fair in Beijing. It has been the second prize awarded to Serbia.

At the 10th award ceremony, the NTO Serbia and NTO Montenegro, which have jointly presented their tourist offers at the fair, received the prestigious award.

The award recognizes the companies and countries that go the extra mile to accommodate Chinese tourists, and offer excellent products and services that meet their specific requirements when travelling abroad.

The number of Chinese tourists visiting Serbia in 2012 has risen by 38% compared to the previous year. While during the first two months of 2013, the increase was 42% compared to the same period last year.

In 2013 it is planned that six tourist agencies from Shanghai start cooperation with Serbian tour operators, and to include Serbia in their offer.

The bilateral Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Republic of Serbia and the National Tourism Administration of the People’s Republic of China with the aim of strengthening cooperation and partner relations, has also contributed to the rise of Chinese tourists visiting Serbia.  Among other provisions, the agreement defines visa liberalization procedures for Chinese group visits to Serbia.

Last year, the National Tourism Organisation of Serbia organized the first official visit of Chinese tourists to Serbia from October 8-10 2012. The arrival of Chinese tourists is a result of the Memorandum.

According to the World Tourism Organisation statistics, the number of Chinese international tourists has risen from 10 million in the year 2000 to 83 million in 2012. Last year, Chinese travelers spent a record US $ 102 billion on tourism.

Travel experts estimate that Chinese tourists are looking for the new destinations in Europe.  That fact could make Serbia and the Balkans a new popular destination for even more Chinese nationals.

Serbia’s booth at the COTTM travel fair is among the most visited. A large number of media and tourism industry representatives have shown special interest for tours in Serbia and are enquiring about information on Serbian tourist products.

Knez Mihailova Street and surrounding streets will be open-air galleries where passers-by can see reproductions of 33 artworks of the National Museum within the Art Tour project at facades of the buildings, from today until September 30.
The Art Tour is a modern version of the Grand Tour which provides an opportunity for a direct contact between artworks and passers-by on Belgrade streets. The downtown facades exhibit works of Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Piere-Auguste Renoir, Matisse and Pablo Picasso and local authors Katarina Ivanović, Paja Jovanović, Nadežda Petrović, Jovan Bjelić, Sava Šumanović and Milena Barili.
Telenor has provided an audio guide through the exhibition which starts with the “Tahitian Woman” (National Museum building, facade in Čika Ljubina Street), lasts 42 minutes and ends with the “In a Park” by Camille Corot at the beginning of Knez Mihailova Street. Visitors can learn more about the paintings by dialling 9840 (for Telenor network subscribers) or 063 9840 (for subscribers of other networks). Calls are free of charge for Telenor subscribers, who can also obtain information by sending a free text message with the text “Delo xx” (type in the number from the legend of a painting instead of hh)” to 9840. Calls from other networks are charged in line with the operator’s valid pricelist. The other posibillity is to download audio guide in english or serbian from the website www.arttura.rs
“The experience of cooperation of leading companies with world museums represents a starting point for the implementation of the “Art Tour” project. We are glad that we can present a small segment of the heritage of the National Museum in such an interesting manner and invite all citizens to take a walk along Belgrade streets and design their own “Art Tour”. During the open-air exhibition, all visitors can purchase reproductions of the exhibited masterpieces in the National Museum,” said Tatjana Cvjetićanin, Manager of the National Museum.
For more information on the “Art Tour” and the exhibited works, please visit www.arttura.rs, as well ashttp://wap.telenor.rs/narodnimuzej/ adjusted for mobile phone use.
