Ivanjica is located in southwestern Serbia, on Staro-Vlaske mountain range and in the picturesque Moravica river valley, and is surrounded by the forest-covered slopes of the Golija, Javor, Mučanj, Murtenica and Čemernica mountains. It lies 486 m above sea-level and is 224 km from Belgrade. Two main roads go to Ivanjica – one from Čačak via Guča and the other from Užice via Požega.

The climate is moderate continental, with gentle, snowy winters and fresh, sunny summers. The abundant greenery and rich forests and the complete absence of fog and air pollution contributed to Ivanjica being designated a climatic spa. Golija mountain has also been declared a nature park and is under UNESCO protection as a biosphere reserve.

Treatment is performed in the Ivanjica Specialised Rehabilitation Hospital. The hospital’s medical section comprises an internal medicine and haematology centre and a physical medicine and rehabilitation centre.

The climate of Ivanjica lends itself to the treatment of:

  • anaemia of various origins
  • malignant blood diseases in total or partial remission
  • thrombocytopenia and leucopenia
  • chronic respiratory diseases (bronchitis, asthma and emphysema)

The institute also has facilities for sports training and school excursions.

In Ivanjica there is a church devoted to Constantine the Great and Saint Helena which was built in 1836. Not far from Ivanjica, in the village of Kumanica, there is a Roman bridge, and in the town of Ivanjica itself, the largest single-arch bridge in the Balkans spans the Moravica river.

Ivanjica’s range of tourist attractions is rounded off by a great many cultural and historical attractions: the Mosaic Monument, the works of Đorđe Andrejević-Kun, the Church in Palibrk graveyard and the building on the grave of Kosovo hero Boško Jugović. In the area around the Moravica river there are 40 religious monuments, of which the most significant are the 13th-century Kovilje monastery, the 17th-century Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Ostatija, the 12th-century Church of the Holy Transfiguration in Pridvorica, the Church of St Nicholas in Brezova, the Church of the Holy Archangel Michael in Prilike and the Church of Saints Emperor Constantine and Empress Helena in Ivanjica.

Other special attractions include the Satellite Transmitter in Prilike and the waterfall on the Morava river.

The fast-flowing mountain rivers have large stocks of fish, in particular trout and dace. There are several sources of mineral water around the municipality of Ivanjica, such as the Tičar and Nebeska Suza lakes on Golija mountain.
