The monument complex at Oplenac, near Topola, includes the remains of a fortification with a tower, the church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, built in 1811, the residence (konak) of and monument to Karađorđe and the mausoleum together with the Church of Saint George, endowment of King Petar I Karađorđević, built between 1910 and 1912.

Work on the church was completed during the time of King Aleksandar in 1930, when the naos and the crypt (which extends under the entire area of the naos), were decorated in opulent mosaic compositions in the style of the most significant examples of Serbian mediaeval painting. The interior furnishing was entrusted to architect Nikolay Krasnov. The impression of luxury and opulence is particularly enhanced by the floor made of multicoloured polished marble.
