Sopocani Built in 1265 by King Uros I, son of King Stefan the First Crowned, the Sopocani Monastery contains the sarcophagus of Uros and what are considered by prominent art experts as the greatest frescoes of medieval Serbian painting and best works painted in the Byzantine style. The monastery is located in southern Serbia, tucked amongst the hills 16 kilometers from Novi Pazar and about 270 kilometers south of Belgrade.
