Djurdjevi Stupovi Djurdjevi Stupovi, or the Towers of St. George, is an endowment of Stefan Nemanja built around 1176. The church sits near the Church of St. Peter, about 3 kilometers south of Novi Pazar, and can be reached by a grassy path leading from St. Peter's. Though mostly in ruins, a large fresco of St. George on horseback is still discernable above the ruins to the main entrance of the church. Near the ruins is a small 13th century chapel built by King Dragutin (1276-1315) intended as his burial place. The vaults contain a number of frescoes depicting early Serbian assemblies and portraits of some of the first Nemanjics. |
